hey all, i hope your christmas was great. i know that mine was. christmas eve was the 3rd annual sullymas fest where friends came over for a small party. everyone brings some food, drinks, and we all hang out and have a good time. it's mainly sarah's friends, as most of mine aren't necessarily local, but it's a good time nonetheless, and i'm glad that we have our own little xmas eve tradition. this past year has been about laying new foundations (literally and figuratively), and it's been a great year so far. i hope it has been for you as well.
recently, i posted some youtube videos of me playing along with some rev luv tunes that i hope to record my parts to. today, there was a christmas miracle, and i got some recording done! the song i was working on is called "this is bliss" and it was one of my favorite songs that we had. i was watching a kiss dvd that i got for xmas, (the kissology dvd set, thanks mrs. sully!) and after watching ace, i decided i'd go see if i could get the tone port working and actually try to record my parts to the rev luv stuff. well..... i made some progress, and i'm 98% happy with how it came out. the solo's a bit sloppy in parts, but i may or may not redo it. the band wasn't about perfection, and this song is such a kill you in the face song that a messy note here and there is okay. as long as it's messy in a "kill you in the face" way. and i kinda think it is. anyway, you tell me
here's the original version:
and here it is with my parts added to it:
after listening to it a few times, i realized that hey, i'm not all that bad sometimes. now THAT's a christmas miracle if i ever saw one.
so fishy got himself a nice new lappy! like my lappy, but a little newer! yeaaaaa fishy! so as he's been getting acclimated, we've been taking advantage of ichat, specifically the video chat function. it's way easier and cheaper than phone calls, and of course, free is good! one particular evening, we needed the assistance of mSit, so we all talked via video chat. here's what it looked like from my lappy:

now that's just some good old fashioned kickassedness. that's one cool little IM window, eh? a lot less typing goin on, and sometimes you feel like you're on the jetsons.
i actually picked up a guitar for the first time in a very long time. i even went as far as plugging in to an amp! crazy, i tell ya. since it was such a rare occasion, i thought i'd capture it for the ages. it's me playing along with my former band, rev*luv. see, a couple of years ago, i decided that i wanted to re-record my parts on to the previously recorded rev luv stuff. i recorded a few songs with the band, but most of it are things that i'm not on. so i thought i'd add my parts some day. maybe some day i will.
the first song was my favorite song that we had, and i always hated the solo that was recorded on it. the guy who produced the recording had me play something completely different than what i used to play, and i really, really, really hated the outcome. so i did some editing with the final recorded version and was able to eliminate most of the original stuff. i haven't got around to rerecording it the way i like it, and i probably never will, but whatev. enjoy the magic and try to ignore my matineee idol good looks; they're pretty disarming. ladies, take caution!
(hm. it may be a little bit before they're viewable. apparently youtube isn't real time when you upload your stuff.)
and here's another one... another song that i really liked, but hated the solo, so i edited the song a bit and got rid of what was on there originally. i still have yet to write my own solo for it, so what you see will not be anything close to good.
so anyway, how've you been? as usual, there's been a lot going on, and i'll try to update ya, but i hope all is well witchoo.
sully
hey everyone, although i'm not too available via AIM over the past few months, i want to wish all of you a very happy thanksgiving and let you know that i'm thinking about you. be it with your families or friends, or a combination of the two, i hope that this past year has brought you happiness and all that stuff.
it's been a very busy, yet exciting year, and when i look back at it, i think of many things that i'm grateful for. my son, whose becoming a pretty decent young man. i thnk of my wife, whose always been at my side for the four years that we've been together. we've accomplished a lot of things this year, and when i think about it, it makes me wonder how the hell we got all of this done and maintained some semblance of sanity!
i'm grateful for my friends, especially one whose year has been a pretty huge journey, and i couldn't be prouder of the bravery and the overall "fuck it, i'm going for quality of life" spirit that can be equal parts liberating and scary as fucking hell.
i'm grateful that i landed on my feet with my t-mob job; i was very scared when my position with uhc was eliminated, but not only did it work out for the best, it's really been something that's continued to be a happy surprise as time goes on. i've received a lot of very positive attention from the powers that be, and it's been something that's had a pretty big impact on me and perhaps the way i view myself in some regards.
i'm also grateful to have made it to chicago for a vacation finally. it's been a lot of fun showing sarah around and yes, eating at portillo's. in normal sully fashion, i've been doing a bit of video documenting and will share that with you when i get it all together. one thing i've been thinking of is building a site dedicated solely to all the retarded videos that i've taken over the past year and a half; be it silly phone videos (dunnnnkin donuuuuuuuuts, etc) to stuff from the wedding, to who knows what.
anyway, it's time for me to take charlie out, so again, i hope that you have a wonderful holiday, and i hope to speak with you soon.
sully
the rabbit yet again...
here's some video from the week:
hotel
airport
takeoff
landing (look for the lightning flashes)
I landed friday, and as i was walking to the terminal's parking lot, i couldn't find my car. for about 45 minutes. i was just about convinced that my car was:
- stolen
- towed for some reason
so i found my car, but quickly learned that my battery was dead. i guess i musta left an interior light on or something. but either way, i needed a jump. thankfully, that was a pretty easy task, and i got home.
saturday's plan was to drive 5 hours north to the tennessee v. arkansas football game. mrs. sully is from tennessee and is quite a fan of their football team, so we got tickets and went to the game. sadly, we drove all that way to watch them get hammered. oops.
we left this morning and got home around 3:30. so in the past 48 hours, i've been in texas, new mexico, oklahoma, and arkansas. where've you been?
we've got motley crue and aerosmith on wednesday night, and in a week from today, we're all getting back in the car and heading to chicago for the holidays. good times.
hey all,
well, this week was semi-eventful, except for the fact that i keep getting afternoon fevers and headaches that don't go away. it's pretty fucking irritating if you ask me. i've been taking tylenol like it was pez, and i'm only getting so much relief. oh well. i can say that i'm pretty much over room service, although charging things to the room (that get expensed) isn't all bad. i've also had the opportunity to watch the "rescue me" dvd sets that i got for my birthday. fuckin' a, that show is addictive. i think i watched 4 or 5 of them in a row, and i had to make myself turn it off and go to bed. at 1:30 in the morning. needless to say, i was pretty damn sleepy tuesday morning. i do have to say that lappy has become quite the travel companion; we watch movies, we hang out online, i tell ya.... everyone needs a pal like lappy. especially you, uncle dan!
so, i'm currently sitting in the airport and waiting for my flight home. yeah, i upgraded again, so it'll be first class sully on the way home. granted, it's only a 1.5 hour flight, but it's nice to have the room...and free booze.
one thing that kinda blows is that i'm here really early, and i could have got right on a plane when i got to the gate because there was room. but i did something on this trip that i rarely do, and that's check bags. so even though i woulda got home hours earlier, my bag would have shown up with my original flight. so fuck that.
we'll be getting in the car tomorrow morning to go to the arkansas v. tennessee football game. i'm not really looking forward to driving 5.5 hours each way, but mrs. sully wants to go see her beloved university of tennessee football team, and it's the closest game to home, so we're going. i'm sure it'll be a good time, look for us on espn! :)
one thing about albuquerque is that the area that we were staying in was chock full of strip clubs. good times. on the other hand, there's NO good lookin women in the ALB. so we were NOT gonna go see what the local talent was like. good move, says i.
back later, i'm gonna go film the airport. fun!
hey all,
it's been a really long time, but i've got a few before the flight attendant brings me my jack on the rocks, so what the hell, right?
as the title suggests, i'm currently on a S-80 headed to albuquerque for work. there's a management workshop going on this week, so i was asked on friday if i could make it. i'm going with a couple of other guys from work, and i think we're going to have a good time.
when i checked in at DFW, the kiosk asked me if i wanted to upgrade for $90. i thought to myself, well, it's a free flight, so why not? so here i am, sitting in first class, and currently enjoying a jack on the rocks. for free, even! in a real glass, even! crazy, i tell ya. just crazy.
anyway, that's pretty much it for now, there's a lot that's been goin on, some good (had some out of town JCF visitors, going home for thanksgiving), some not so good (tuesday, sarahs' cat has cancer and she's only 8), but we'll all get through it, i guess.
